Gavin Lynch of Ireland, better known as Matador (IE) is a key player in Richie Hawtin’s techno family on the Berlin imprint M-nus . Matador’s sound is dark with an electro twist that’s raunchy and at times mesmerizing with a unique live performance where he performs as both DJ and producer at once; re-imagining his own songs through tech wizardry utilising Ableton Live as his wand where every passing beat takes the crowd deeper into his mystical sound.
He’s just started touring North America with earlier visits this year at Movement in Detroit in May and in July we found him at the MoMA PS1 in New York. Last friday we found him again in New York City along with Hobo and DJ Deep, he then finished off the weekend at Space in Miami to crush the dance floor with DJ Boris and Hot Since 82.
Entering November Matador and Hobo head over to Toronto to meet up with Justin James and then down south for Mexico City’s Day-of-the-Dead at the Soul Tech Festival, playing alongside Gaiser, Paul Ritch and Marc Houle, amongst others.
Matador finishes off his tour playing again with his label mate Hobo at a Paxahau event in Detroit on the 8th and ultimately ending the tour at Chicago’s Smart Bar just in time for the birthday of Tim Barker, where we find Gavin playing back-to-back with Romanian Cosmin TRG.
We’ve included some of our favourite Matador Sets and singles for you to check out, if you enjoy them make sure to head over TO BEATPORT to show your support.
